About
La Pulquería is an object book, with six sheets as an accordion, that reproduces the murals of La Pulquería, the work of the artist Fernando Robles. This magnificent work made of cotton paper and measuring 24 meters long by 2 high has been exhibited in the city of San Francisco, California, at the Franz Mayer Museum in Mexico City, in the Convent of Santo Domingo de la Oaxaca city and in the Regional Museum of Guadalajara, Jalisco. The work recreates the world of the XIX century “pulquerías” and, at the same time, it’s a tribute to José Guadalupe Posada. In it we discover the characters that, like skulls, populated the XIX century “pulquerías”. Musicians, water and bird sellers, and many others, parade before our eyes thanks to the skillful artist’s brush. The text, in Spanish and English, describes the history of these “pulquerías” and gives us a large repertoire of sayings about “the sacred elixir”.
